During production on Circuladô, Morelenbaum met Ryuichi Sakamoto, who was also participating on the album, and started collaborating with him, too. In the mid-'90s, Morelenbaum performed in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo at the Free Jazz Festival with ten percussionists of the drum section (bateria) of the Mangueira samba school.
So it's entirely fitting that the Morelenbaums, along with pianist Ryuichi Sakamoto, should journey to Jobim 's idyllic music room in his home above Rio de Janeiro to make some intimate on-the-spot recordings of Jobim 's music -- with Sakamoto playing Jobim 's own grand piano. The cello of Jaques Morelenbaum is, as always, achingly beautiful and the piano sound of Sakamoto is eerily like that of Jobim himself.
